Ideas for no spend weekend.

March 18, 2020

According to a 2019 study, a Friday night out costs £70.56 on average. Putting that into perspective – another study shows that a weekly food shop for a family of four, costs £81.40 on average. ‘No spend weekends’ are easy to do, gentle on your bank account and can make a big difference to your finances.

Play board games

Board games are a fun way to bring family and friends together with no spending – on the assumption that the game had already been purchased prior to your no spend weekend!

Home spa day

Whether it’s a face mask that you have at the back of your drawer or a simple bubble bath with candles, home spa days can easily cost absolutely nothing.

Go for a walk

People enjoy walks for different reasons. All you need to do is find your own reason! Seeing nature, walking the dog, losing weight, improving your health, clearing your head, or simply wanting to be kinder to the environment.

Visit free places – museums, parks, your local library

Some museums may charge an entry fee, but the vast majority don’t. Museums are fun for all – old and young, no matter what your interests are as the interaction and education accommodates for all. If you’re looking for a quieter alternative, consider visiting your local library where you’ll have the choice of flicking through your favourite magazine, or getting lost in your favourite novel.

Duvet & film day

Everybody loves a duvet day. Sit back, put your feet up, flick your favourite film on and do absolutely nothing else. What’s not to love?

Visit friends & family

Perhaps you’ve been intending to visit a family member but haven’t had time in the week? This weekend is perfect. It doesn’t cost anything to have a cuppa and a catch up!

Make money – selling online

Instead of spending money, make some more! The weight you lost after Christmas has made a few of your clothes too baggy, and the children are now too big for their old toys! Get online, start selling and watch your bank account grow!

Make tidying fun!

Who knew tidying could be fun? Get your music turned up, your feather duster in hand, and go! You never know, you might even enjoy it. The best part – it’s free!

No spend challenge

Why not include your friends and family in your no spend weekend? Either enjoy saving money together, or participate simultaneously while apart and make it a friendly competition! Good luck with your no spend challenge!
